The copyright for the songs (music and words) belongs to
Dave Ramsay, a singer/songwriter who lives in our village,
Catterline, in North East Scotland. I have known Dave for
a number of years and only very recently found out he was
an extremely accomplished singer and songwriter. I asked him
if he would write a song (or 2) about Polly with a view to
having them put on a CD and selling them to raise funds for
the 2 Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescues that I help with.
He was very accommodating, even though he is allergic to dogs,
he immediately agreed at no cost, to write and sing the songs.
If it wasn't for the kindness, given freely by Dave, none
of this would have been possible and because he is allergic
to dogs, he hasn't even been able to receive the kisses from
Polly that Staffies are so famous for!
Dave has also been very helpful in sourcing a Recording Studio
that would cut the CD's for me. Ed, of Xbow Recording Studio,
Laurencekirk kindly offered to cut the CD's at no profit,
merely charging me for the cost of of the basic CD and case.
The CD has 2 songs on.
The Canine from Catterline or (The day Kathy's Baffies
got chewed by a Staffie).
Basically the song is about Polly eating my slippers, the
trouble she gets into and how, in the end, it all comes right
when it gives me and Bob Michie (Pet Shop owner in Stonehaven)
the idea of making and selling an edible slipper.
Kathy and her Staffy
This tells the story of the day me and Polly were being
interviewed live on the local radio. Polly was fastened to
me with her lead, I was sat on a chair, with castors, all
wired up to the radio equipment being interviewed live on
air and then someone unexpectedly came through the studio
door. Polly lunged forward to give them a kissy greeting (Staffy
style) and pulled me with her, the equipment going flying
and me with it. All live on air. It also has a verse which
makes the crucial comment "Dinnae ever blame the dog,
look at the other end 'o' the lead".
An excellent CD, written and sung with humour and for a very
worthy cause.
Forever thanks to Dave Ramsay.
